On Tuesday 7th January, Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake paid a visit to Carshalton College to find out what goes into an Apprenticeship

Tom heard first-hand about the experience of combining earning with learning when he met with a group of young people who are currently gaining their Apprenticeships through Carshalton College.

Tom said: "It was great to meet the apprentices at Carshalton College and experience first-hand how they gain their skills and knowledge."

"Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to start a career but they also bring real, measurable benefits for employers."

"I am confident that at Carshalton College apprentices are getting the kind of training that will meet the needs of the workplace of today and tomorrow"

During the visit, Tom learned about the Apprenticeship programmes offered by the College and met with several apprentices in various industries, including Hospitality and Catering, Hairdressing, Motor Vehicle and Accounting. The MP had a chance to find out first-hand about the value of Apprenticeships and hear many success stories

Apprentices gain their qualification by attending college part-time and work for an employer for the rest of the week. The Government is keen to increase the number of Apprenticeship positions at the same time as highlighting how Apprenticeships are great for businesses, personal careers and creating opportunities for both employers and apprentices.
