Carshalton and Wallington MP’s apprentice meets PM

March 18, 2014 12:40 PM

Local MP Tom Brake's apprentice, Callum Morton, recently met Prime Minister David Cameron to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week.

As his one year anniversary as Tom's apprentice approaches, Callum, 21, was invited to speak with the PM to discuss the benefits and challenges of apprenticeships. Currently a level 3 advanced apprentice, the Sutton resident spoke particularly about the skills and experience he had gained so far.

Callum said: "it has made a monumental difference to my life"

"I had difficulty growing up, largely due to bullying at school, and my self-esteem was shattered. I wanted to get involved in politics, to help people and make a difference, but found it impossible to do so. I also needed to gain skills in communication, even picking up the phone was a huge barrier I needed to overcome."

"As Tom's apprentice, I have regained my confidence and developed the skills I need to get to where I want to be."

Mr Brake commented: "For me, the most rewarding part of having an apprentice is seeing them grow. The way Callum has developed as a person in nearly a year is incredible."

"Every single one of the 1.6 million apprenticeships that we have created since 2010 has its own rewarding story to tell."
