This month, Tom Brake MP received a letter of support from Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, offering his backing to the Sutton Lib Dem campaign to extend the tram to Sutton.

Sadiq Khan also agreed that the tram link should be developed, because the scheme will improve access to jobs and housing, whilst reducing private vehicle use in Sutton.

Tom Brake MP for Carshalton and Wallington said:

"I am pleased to have Transport for London’s support for such an important scheme. This is an important step forward in our campaign to make a tram link to Sutton a reality."

"With the Mayor of London's support, our campaign has developed new momentum, and our next stop is securing funding from the Department of Transport (DfT). Many constituents have asked for improved public transport links, and I plan to deliver on their demands. I will continue to lobby ministers until the tram link receives funding through to completion."
