Local MP wishes upon a star for Earth Hour 2014



Carshalton and Wallington MP, Tom Brake has made a special pledge to switch to low energy light bulbs ahead of this year's Earth Hour. Mr Brake was one of many joining WWF in London to make their 'starry' themed wishes, ahead of the global lights out event, due to take place onSaturday 29th March at 8:30pm.

MPs were inspired to celebrate Earth Hour as a reminder to do their bit for the planet and advocate within their constituencies for the importance of building a sustainable future for both people and the planet.

£800 tax cut for 39,700 people in Carshalton and Wallington


An £800 income tax cut for people in Carshalton and Wallington is the real budget boost, Liberal Democrat Tom Brake MP said today following the budget announcement.

The budget revealed plans to increase the personal allowance to £10,500 from April 2015 and put an extra £100 back in taxpayers' pockets.

Lib Dems have already delivered on a £700 tax cut for low to middle earners, but today's news goes even further for hardworking people.

As his one year anniversary as Tom’s apprentice approaches, Callum, 21, was invited to speak with the PM to discuss the benefits and challenges of apprenticeships. Currently a level 3 advanced apprentice, the Sutton resident spoke particularly about the skills and experience he had gained so far.

Local students shadow MP for International Women’s Day

St Philomena’s sixth former Miriam David, 17, shadowed Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake to celebrate International Women’s Day.

MPs were encouraged to invite a local female student to shadow them for the day in Parliament on 6th March 2014. Hoping to inspire young women from all walks of life, the day aimed to provide the perfect opportunity for a young woman to experience political life and see how Parliament works.

Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake acknowledged the “incredible” work of staff and volunteers at both the British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop and Furniture & Electrical store on Woodcote Road in Wallington.

Mr. Brake visited the shops on 1 March 2014 to see their great work first-hand. After donating his own bag of goods, he was given guided tours of the shops.

Local schoolboys seek MP advice

Four schoolboys from Carshalton Boys Sports College met up with Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake for advice on their campaign to lower the voting age to 16.

Sean Goulding, 15, Nathan Coe, 15, Mark Duggan, 14 and Andrew Boakes, 14 started their campaign, Team 16, as part of their citizenship coursework. The campaign became very important to the teenagers and soon developed into much more than just a school project.

Tom Brake MP: new apprentices give a £1.8m boost to businesses in Carshalton and Wallington

Tom Brake MP is calling for more local businesses to take on an apprentice, after new research revealed the extent of the benefits involved.

Every time a local company hires an apprentice, their bottom line gets an average boost of £2,621. This happens immediately, while the apprentice is being trained, and represents the benefit after typical wage and training costs for London are deducted.
