MP Tom Brake signs MND Charter

key_MND.pngCarshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake has signed the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association’s Charter in recognition of the rights and priorities of people living with MND and their carers.

MND kills five people every day, with half of people dying within 14 months of diagnosis. This terminal disease can affect any adult at any age. There is no known cure.

GPs and healthcare professionals from across South West London have announced that the BSBV review that recommended the closure of key healthcare services at St Helier hospital has been scrapped.
A new strategy on how to deliver health services in our area will now be developed by local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) so that the best possible care can be delivered in the future.

Tom Brake MP delighted by drop in JSA claims

Local MP Tom Brake has expressed his delight with recent figures showing a 28.5% fall in the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) in Carshalton and Wallington.

The figures published by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) on 19 February 2014 show that the numbers of people claiming JSA dropped by 588 – from 2,066 in January 2013 to 1,478 in January 2014. The number of claimants is now only 2.9% of the population and is at the lowest rate since the election in 2010.

Tom Brake MP demands train improvements

MP for Carshalton and Wallington, Tom Brake, demanded Southern and First Capital Connect raise their standards after shocking positions in a recent satisfaction league table.

Out of the 19 train companies surveyed by consumer group Which?, Southern were ranked 13th and First Capital Connect ranked 18th. According to the survey, passengers don’t think either train company provides value for money nor do they believe that there is enough room for passengers on the trains.

The MPs promoted apprenticeships as an alternative to university, and a great way for young people to earn while they learn.
