Renters across the UK are celebrating an extraordinary victory after the Government finally announced they would scrap “no-fault evictions,” giving tenants peace of mind and a sense of security in their homes.
Currently tenants can be forced out of their homes in as little as eight weeks. This new change, which is the greatest change in the private rental sector in over a generation, will prevent landlords from evicting tenants from their homes at short notice and without a valid reason.
Liberal Democrat MP Tom Brake said:
"It is well overdue for the Government to scrap no-fault evictions, which currently cause anxiety for families and lead to family homelessness across the UK.
"Renters can now be reassured that they will not be forced out of their homes without reason or time to plan accordingly.
"This much-needed change will help around 11 million people who currently live in rented accommodation in England, many of whom have been campaigning to scrap no-fault evictions."
