One step closer to step-free access for Carshalton station

Commenting on the news that Sutton Council have now approved Network Rail’s planning application to install step-free access at Carshalton Station, Tom Brake MP said:

"I welcome the news that Sutton Council has now granted planning permission for works that will ensure step-free access to Carshalton station.

"This gets us closer to making sure that older people, people with mobility problems, pushchairs or heavy luggage and cyclists can all benefit from lifts at the station.

"Hundreds of local people supported my campaign back in 2014 calling for Carshalton to go step-free, so I know that they will be pleased with this development."

In 2014 the Coalition Government announced an extra £60 million in funding for the Access for All scheme during that year’s Autumn Statement. Part of that funding will pay for the improvements at Carshalton station.

Access for All is a major programme improving accessibility at train stations nationwide by installing lifts and ramps.
