Local MP Tom Brake and St Helier councillors Jean Crossby, Martin Gonzalez and Doug Hunt have launched a petition calling for St. Helier Hospital to reduce their car parking prices. The initiative has been set up by Tom and the St Helier councillors in an effort to prevent hospital staff and visitors from parking in nearby residential streets. The petition will allow local people to show their support for the campaign.
Past petitions haven’t succeeded, but it is hoped that the recent arrival of a new Chief Executive at St Helier Hospital will offer a new opportunity for the hospital to deal with the problem.
With service changes at St Helier likely to be proposed over the next 6-9 months, the local Lib Dem campaigners believe this might provide the opportunity to make changes to the parking arrangements.
The reduction of fees for parking at St. Helier hospital would encourage more people to make use of the hospital’s car parking facilities, rather than avoid charges by using local streets and creating blockages in the nearby area.
