Tom Brake pledged his support for St Helier hospital this morning in a visit to the hospital.
Tom Brake also presented around 1,000 supportive messages from local residents to Daniel Elkeles, the Chief Executive of St Helier hospital.
Commenting on the visit Tom Brake said:
“St Helier has always been and will continue to be my top priority. In the last week I have been overwhelmed with hundreds of messages in support of our local hospital.
I have frequently raised St Helier Hospital in Parliament and use every opportunity to do so, even lobbying Jeremy Hunt, Health Secretary, about funding for St Helier in the coffee queue in Westminster
So far Conservative Health Ministers have consistently failed to provide assurances of funding for the hospital. In fact the Health Minister confirmed that there was no allocated funding for St Helier Hospital and that at the time of replying to my parliamentary question Ministers had not met with the Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust to discuss its future.
Residents won’t forget that it is Jeremy Hunt himself who scrapped the £219 million that had been set aside for St Helier. I am afraid it is clear that you can't trust the Tories with St Helier and our NHS.’’
